FREE ICE-CREAM, EVERYONE!! .Put the verbs in brackets into the past simple tense: : It was a bright, sunny day. My mum ________ (ask) me to go and see my grandma. My grandma lives by herself. That morning, she _______ (ring) my mum and asked for some bread and milk. She _______ (can) not get to the shop because she _______ (have) a bad leg from a fall. I _______ (say) OK and I agreed to take her a loaf of bread and a litre of milk. You have to go through a park to get to my grandma’s house. There is a lake in the park, a children’s play area and lots of picnic benches. I _______ (put) the bread and milk in my basket and I _______ (add) a packet of biscuits as my gran has a sweet tooth. I _______ (set) off and as I reached the park, I _______ (see) that it was very busy. There were people everywhere! Someone _______ (start) shouting something. I looked to my right. I noticed a lady at a bench. She shouted: ‘Anybody wanting an ice-cream, come here! ’ I _______ (think): ‘Wow, that’s nice! ’ I was pretty hot as it is quite a long walk, so I _______ (go) over and _______ (get) in the queue. As it _______ (come) to my turn, the ice-cream lady said: ‘I don’t recognise you. Who are you? Who is your teacher? ’ I looked around and I saw that all the others in line were little kids. It _______ (dawn) on me slowly and horribly that it was a school outing. The lady was kind; she _______ (laugh) and she said I could have an ice-cream, anyway. But I was so embarrassed, I said nothing. I just _______ (turn) and _______ (run). I _______ (tell) my gran the story when I arrived and she laughed so much! It really cheered her up.
