Grammar by Michael Swan Пожалуй, никогда теория грамматики не описывалась таким остроумным и увлекательным способом, как это сделал Майкл Свон, автор огромного числа учебников и пособий по грамматике английского языка. Эта книга, по словам автора, не столько разбор грамматических правил английского языка, сколько попытка ответить на вопросы о сущности самой науки, предоставить широкий и объективный взгляд на предмет в целом. Такой подход превращает достаточно сложный процесс изучения в увлекательное чтение. Какие ассоциации вызывает у вас слово «грамматика»? Автор уверен, что ни одна из них не будет положительной: сложные правила и не подлежащие логическому объяснению исключения из них, спряжение и склонение, времена, огромные пыльные книги, описывающие все вышеперечисленное, и неизменный вопрос «зачем мне знать все это? ». В первой главе Свон объясняет необходимость грамматики интересным способом, предлагая представить язык без неё. Спойлер – без грамматики существование языка маловероятнo. Помимо рассуждений о природе грамматического учения, автор пишет и о более конкретных вещах, например, о частях речи и частях предложения, о грамматических категориях, иллюстрируя все примерами из разных языков. Целую главу автор посвящает практической стороне грамматики, как употребление тех или иных грамматических конструкций зависит от контекста и коммуникативной ситуации, в чем разница между её использованием в устной и письменной речи, в формальной и неформальной коммуникации. Попробуйте и вы – какое из двух выражений взято из устной, а какое из письменной речи? Grammar by Michael Swan Grammar theory has probably never been described in such a witty and fascinating way as did Michael Swan, the author of a vast number of textbooks and manuals on English grammar. This book, according to the author, is not so much an analysis of the grammatical rules of English as an attempt to answer questions about the essence of science itself, to provide a broad and objective view of the subject as a whole. This approach turns a rather complex learning process into a fascinating reading. What associations does the word " grammar" evoke? The author is sure that none of them will be positive: complex rules and logical exceptions to them, conjugation and word formation, grammatical times, huge dusty books describing all of the above, and the constant question repeating in your head " why should I know all this? " In the first chapter, Swan explains the need for grammar in an interesting way. He offers to imagine a language without it. Here goes the spoiler - without grammar, the existence of language is almost impossible. If you are eager to learn more, you must read the book! Besides reasoning about the nature of grammatical teaching, the author writes about more specific things, such as parts of speech and sentence structure, grammatical categories, illustrating them with examples from different languages. Swan devotes a whole chapter to the practical side of grammar, how the use of certain grammatical constructions depends on the context and communicative situation, what is the difference between language used in oral and written speech, in formal and informal communication. Try yourself: which of the two expressions below is from oral and which is from written speech?
