T: The name of our lesson is “The customs and traditions of Great Britain. ”

The veteran cars are set out on the London — Brighton run each November.

There is an important condition — every car taking part must be at least 60 years old,

It provides the gayest motoring spectacle of the year and a wonderful opportunity to see these old fine cars.

The London — Brighton ride is not a race.

Participants are limited to a maximum average speed of 20 miles per hour.

At 8 o'clock comes the ‘Off ’.

The main things in this tournament are the cars that represent the history of the country.

A VERY INTERESTING TRADITION

Every country has its traditions. As you know in England traditions play a very important part in the people’s life. Here is one of those traditions.

Every year a large number of old cars drive to Hyde Park in London to take part in the run. Among the cars there are those which were made at the beginning of the century. The run takes place on the first Sunday in November. It begins at eight o’clock in the morning from Hyde Park. Some cars look very funny. The drivers are dressed in the clothes of the time the cars were made. The oldest cars drive in front. The run is not a competition, but a demonstration of cars of all models.

Some cars come to Brighton, which is about a hundred kilometres from London only late in the evening; others don’t get there, they have to stop on the way.

Answer the questions:

1. What takes place in England on the first Sunday of November?

2. What cars can be seen in the run from London to Brighton?

3. When does the run usually begin?

4. Do all the cars get to Brighton?

5. When does the run end?

6. Why does it take so much time to drive from London to Brighton?

7. Do you like this English tradition?
