The Institute for Slavic Studies at Universität Hamburg (Germany) and the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Department at Perm State University (Russia) invite researchers to take part in the international scientific conference

LANGUAGE VARIATION: CONDITIONS, MECHANISMS, RESULTS

The conference will take place on October 30–31, 2021and will be held online.

Language contact is regarded an important source of language variation. Therefore, the conference aims at expanding theoretical and methodological perspectives on language contact between languages and their varieties on the basis of international scientific experience. The meeting intends to bring together experienced scientists and young researchers from Russia, Germany, and other European countries to discuss new theoretical and methodological approaches and issues in contact linguistics. Special attention will be paid to the application of modern digital technologies.

We welcome academic scientists, students and young researchers from Russia, Germany, and other European countries specializing in sociolinguistics, contact linguistics and multilingual studies.

The following topics will be addressed:  

· linguistic and extra-linguistics conditions of contact situations between and within languages;

· mechanisms of language contact in different situations;

· results of language contact determined by its conditions and mechanisms;

· parallels and differences in language contact processes characterizing the interaction of different linguistic systems;

· innovative theoretical and methodological approaches to language contact studies;

· modern digital technologies in language contact research.

The conference languages are English, German, and Russian.

Presenters are requested to confirm their participation in the conference and send the completed application form (see the attached file) by September 10, 2021 to the following address: splr.editor@gmail.com.

Selected peer-reviewed papers will be published in the journal “Socio- and Psycholinguistic Studies” (http://splr.psu.ru) by the end of 2021. The equirements to submitting and formatting can be found at the journal web-site. The publication is free of charge. The formatted paper should be sent to splr.editor@gmail.com until October 15, 2021.
