Everybody likes to read novels. The novel is a kind of literature. It is fiction, which means that the story is invented by the writer. Before the novel, literature did not tell the stories of ordinary people. It was so because its focus was on gods and heroes. This changed during the Middle Ages. Then stories about everyday lives of people first appeared.
There are many types of novels. It is so because novels can have many purposes. They can be the author’s views on life. They can also be written purely to entertain readers. Some authors write novels to bring attention to unfair social practices. Some novels follow a character from childhood into adulthood. Detective stories revolve around a character solving a crime. Other types include historical novels and science fiction.
