Hello, I’m Holly!

I’ve been an English teacher and I am still learning something new every day, usually from my students! I really enjoy my job because I get to meet lots of interesting students from all over the world and I love seeing them progress from their first day in class to the end of the course when their English (and confidence) has improved!

I can sympathise with my classes as I have been both a language learner and living away from home myself. I lived in Spain for 4 years and Japan for one, which were great experiences. In my free time I enjoy doing exercise videos in my living room (which my neighbours find very funny!) and visiting new countries and cities.

Course outline/objectives:

The aim of this course is to develop the skills required to teach English as a foreign language to both adults and teenagers/young learners. There is a focus on developing the four skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as approaches to teaching grammar and to lesson planning in general. By the end of the course, the teachers should feel more confident in delivering student-centred, communicative lessons and will have expanded their range in terms of teaching techniques and approaches.

Day 1 Introduction to the course

  • The role of the teacher as facilitator in a student-centered classroom
Day 2 Developing speaking/writing skills
  • Product vs process approach
  • Speaking and writing sub-skills
Day 3 Developing listening/reading skills
  • Bottom-up vs top-down approach
  • Listening and reading sub-skills
Day 4 Approaches to teaching grammar
  • PPP
  • Test teach test
  • Guided discovery
  • Dictogloss
Day 5 Lesson planning
  • Adapting the coursebook
  • Taking activities of the page

    Course length: 1weeks - 1 lesson: 50 minutes

  • Hours per week: 12h 30 minutes
  • Choose between: – Morning course: 09.00 – 11.50 (15 lessons weekly/3 daily) OR– Afternoon course: 13.00 – 15.50 (15 lessons weekly/3 daily)
