I am left without the compatriots that can make my friends envy me… T/F

Below is the presentation of the 1^st year student Valeria Malchik at the students’ conference Promoting National Values towards Cross Cultural Awareness (Belarusian State Economic University, 1918), where she did not take an award because, according to the contest jury “Sukhoi aircraft are not made in Belarus, therefore the presentation does not relate to the theme of the conference”. Study the material and conclude if it does or does not:

Ask some of your friends who Pavel Osipovich Sukhoi is and it’s likely some of them won’t answer. And it’s highly likely no one will explain what he is famous for. Yet, he is, probably, our greatest compatriot.

Few people abroad know Gomel, many Americans did not hear even about Minsk. But millions of people around the world say the word “Sukhoi” every day. Some with pride, in our part of the world. Enemies hate it. Sukhoi is the brand of Soviet and Russian military aircraft that surpassed any existing rivals by far.

Founded in 1939 by Pavel Sukhoi the Sukhoi Aircraft Design Bureau designed the first warplanes, which were called “the weapon of victory”. Today the Sukhoi brand accounts for 70% of all the aircraft in the Russian Air Force.The slogan of KnAPO, the manufacturer of the latest Su-57 version, is “We Make the Air Power of Russia”. Indeed, Su-57 is the most powerful man-made machine that ever took off the ground. Sukhoi 27, 30, 33, 34, 35, 37, 57… make the family of fighters and multi-roleaircraft operated throughout the world. It’s the backbone of the Air Forces of the world’s major military powers: China, India, Russia. All is all Sukhoi is commissioned with the Air Forces of 17 nations. Noteworthy, India has two times more Su-30 than Russia. India and China arranged licensed manufacturing of Su-27.

In 1989, Sukhoi 27 performed the maneuver nicknamed Cobra. [video 01.09 Cobra] No other plane in the word is capable of copying it even today, except the Chinese copy of Sukhoi that did it to a lesser degree. In the 90’s at one of the international air shows Sukhoi voiced an open challengeto organizea test fight for air superiority. No one accepted ever since… Over the past couple of decades Sukhoi has advanced to newer models capable of performing new aerobatic maneuvers, which triggered appraisals even in the hostile media, which wrote ‘Sukhoi performs jaw dropping maneuvers’, ‘Russian pilots are crazy’, ‘Crazy Russian aerobatics’. At the Moscow Aerospace Salon MAKS in 2005, in visitors’ address the organizers said: “Maybe in terms of business attendance we lag behind Dubai Air Show or European Expos, but dear foreign guests, can anybody of you stand up and say you ever saw at least one third of our flight program elsewhere?” After a minute of loud silence, the organizers added: “Now think of a name for what you are going to see this year. The thing hasn’t a name yet. Let it be the international contest”. In 2005 Sukhoi indeed shocked the world’s aviation community. Foreign media burst out with articles ‘Sukhoi defies gravity’, ‘Sukhoi defies the laws of physics’… It does.

A rocket or a jet plane cannot stop in the air. It’s basic physics. Sukhoi stops… The 30 tons of deadly metal moved by two jet engines descend like a helicopter [video 00.25 controlled spin] even go backwards [video 00.55 Double Cross]. ‘Double Cross’, suggested by an Indian pilot, won the contest. Specialists are sure that no other nation in the world will be able to produce a warplane with the same characteristics in the foreseeable future.

Sukhoi remains the unbeatable fighter for air superiority in a dogfight with any existing or potential rival. It is mere statistics. In the 90s Russian pilot Alexander Kharchevsky on Su-27 won three successive experimental dogfights with American fighter aircraft in the territory of the US, with the organizers changing the rules of the game three times in favor their aces. After that ridicule the Americans did not dare to repeat the tests.

Over the past 30 years countries, like India and Malaysia, which operate American, French, British and Russian fighters perform test or training fights between different models. Statistics demonstrate that Indian or Malaysian pilots flying Sukhoi warplanes repeatedly beat their colleagues flying any other planes.

Sukhoi aircraft are the most feared by NATO pilots. There are many videos on the Internet how Sukhoi fighters repeatedly push their NATO opponents off the planes of the Russian President or Defense Minister while escorting them overseas. [video 02.55 push off]

The deck version Su-33 takes off the aircraft carrier with the thrust of the engines, while foreign deck fighters use catapult.

The pilots on Sukhoi score millions of ‘likes’ for… air hooliganism. [video 1.55 hooliganism] Why top Russian military command does not investigate such ‘tricks’ leaked to open sources? Maybe because although it’s an outrageous violation of aviation security, it also demonstrates the flight characteristics. Sukhoi holds 27 world records in aviation.

Russian Knights on Su-27 is one-of-a-kind aerobatic demonstration team.What makes it unique is that it’s the world’s only aerobatic team flying serial fighters. [video 02.33 Russian Knights] America, France, UK, other countries do have aerobatic demonstration teams. But they fly sport or training planes, which are 6-10 times lighter than serial Sukhoi-27, which in a group of six perform the stunts that make ordinary people applaud and specialists admit that Sukhoi aircraft is the real master of the sky.
