They consist of a verb and one or two prepositions (on, in, up, down) or particles. Multi-word verbs have three types. They are phrasal verbs, prepositional verbs and phrasal-prepositional verbs. Examples that have close meaning to concession and respect:
abide by – to accept a rule or a law. They’ll abide by the rules of the university. approve of - to agree with or support someone or something. I always approve of my brothers decisions. comply with – to follow a particular rule. We must comply with the school rules. conform to – agree to a rule or reach the necessary stated standard. The employees refused to conform to wear uniforms. give in - to agree to do something that you do not want to do. The brave men have shown no signs of giving in to the enemy. give up – to stop doing something. She finally gave up her bad behaviour. look upon - to think of someone or something in a stated way. We looked upon our teacher as our mother. think highly of – to admire someone or something, to respect. Young people think highly of celebrities. Links:
