Wildfires Uncontrolled fire that happens in a wilderness (forest, bush). Firefighters try to put the fire out.
Drought Is an long period of months or years when a region doesn’t have any rain. People can die of hunger when this happens.
Cyclones, Typhoons, Hurricanes, Tornados Violent wind with a lot of rain which moves quickly in a circle – circular wind.
Tsunami High waves that hit the coast, destroy houses, kill people…
Floods Rivers overflow the banks and flood the area that is usually dry. Blizzard (snowstorm) Strong winds with a lot of snow Avalanches A mass of snow, ice, rocks.. slide down the mountain and buries everything underneath.
Landslides A huge amount/quantity of stones, mud, soil slide down and destroys everything underneath. Volcanoes When it erupts (explodes, goes off), lava and hot rocks pour down the mountain, ash rises in the air.
Epidemics Diseases affecting a lot of people (aviary flu, Plague, yellow fever, AIDS, cholera, malaria) destroy/damage (houses) kill/hurt (people)
Refuges – people who had to leave their native country Homeless people – people without home Foreigners – foreign people, from other countries
