«The history of Olympics Games».

The Olympics have a very long history. They began in 776 BC and took place every four years for nearly 1200 years, at Olympia, in Greece. They included many different kinds of sport: running, boxing, wrestling, pentathlon (five different sports). The Games were so important that even wars were stopped when they were held.

The Olympic emblem is five interlinked rings: blue, yellow, black, green and red. Each colour means a continent: blue for Europe, yellow for Asia, black for Africa, green for Australia and red colour is for America.

The symbols of the Olympic Games are five interlinked rings, the Olympic Flame, a mascot (something or somebody who brings lucky and happiness) and the motto.

The famous flag of the International Olympic Committee shows 5 rings of different colours linked together (they stand for 5 continents).

The motto of the Olympic Games is “Citius, altius, forties” which is Latin for “Faster, higher, stronger”.

The main idea of the Olympic Games is in the words: “The important thing is not winning but taking part” said by Baron Pierre de Coubertin. Baron Pierre de Coubertin was the founder of modern Olympic Games.
