Comparative analysis.

The headlines of the articles I have read are

“Gui Minhai: Hong Kong bookseller gets 10 years jail” (BBC News, 25.02.2020), “China jails Hong Kong bookseller Gui Minhai for 10 years” (SCMP, 25.02.2020) and “China Sentences Hong Kong Bookseller Gui Minhai to 10 Years in Prison” (NY Times, 25.02. 2020).

In my comparative analysis I am trying to compare articles published by three different news sources. The first article is written by BBC News. BBC News is an operational business division of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The second article is written by The South China Morning Post. SCMP is a Hong Kong English-language newspaper. The third is written by The New York Times. NY Times is an American newspaper based in New York City with worldwide influence and readership.

As the titles imply, the articles tell about putting the Hong Kong bookseller in prison. The articles touch upon the issue of criticism of Chinese leaders, arrests and abductions, record of “confession” from Chinese authorities.

The purpose and the main idea of the articles is to give the reader some information about Gui Minhai, one of five Hong Kong booksellers known for criticizing Chinese political leaders, who was abducted by Chinese authorities from a train to Beijing in February 2018.
