Electronic assistant:Why are people less interested in reading books nowadays?

Student:This is may be because of the fast pace of modern lifethat many people lead nowadays. They are so busywith their job and family that they can hardly arrange any time for their own hobbies. Despite knowing that reading can do wonders fortheir mental health, people would prefer hanging out with friends or surfing Facebook.

Electronic assistant:How often do you read?

Student:As a student, I often spend 1 to 2 hours per day reading books. The ideal time and place for reading is in the afternoon at the library, where it is quiet so that I can concentrate on reading without any disturbance from outside.

Electronic assistant:Do you like reading books? Why?

Student:Yes, I’m really into reading because I believe that reading can be both entertaining and educational. Reading broadens my knowledge by opening up the whole world to me. While I’m reading, I can be visiting another country or a different time period, or traveling through space. I can find out how people solve problems or think up new ideas.

Electronic assistant:What kinds of books are most popular with children in your country?

Student:From my experience and observation I can say that comics, detective books, fairy tales, and fictions are more popular among children in my country. Young children prefer comics and books that have nice illustration while teenagers like to read detective books, fiction and mystery books.

Electronic assistant:What kind of people like reading and what kind of people don’t like reading very much?

Student: Well, I think people who are involved in outdoor activities generally do not like reading very much, and people who do research or work at schools or universities tend to like reading. However, this depends on other factors, so it’s hard to generalize.

Electronic assistant:What are the benefits of reading?

Student:Reading opens the door to the child’s early academic success and leads to higher grades in every subject. Besides, reading can help children improve linguistic/communicational skills in the form of a richer vocabulary, correct grammar. Besides, books teach children about relationships, situations, personalities, and what is good and what is bad in the world he lives in.

Electronic assistant: How do you think children can be encouraged to read more?

Student:In my opinion,parents need to be readers and motivate children to read books. They should read books to their children every night and let the young minds search for a world hidden in books.

Reading for enjoymentcan help people to develop their imagination and improve their language skills in many ways. Firstly, while watching television is said to be more of a passive activity, reading is considered to be an active form of learning. Reading stimulates people’s brainsmore as they have to use their imagination to visualise the characters and plot of the story, and this helps to further develop their imaginative thinking skills.Secondly, language skills can also be improved from reading. By reading regularly, people can expand their vocabulary and learn different grammatical structuresand how to use them effectively.

My favourite leisure activity is reading. I like reading because it is a hobby that is useful and interesting. You can gain a lot of knowledge of all fields that you need, and books can give you the joy and help you relax after studies. When you join the forum for people who have interests similar to you, you can share the comments on the books or novels that interest you or participate in discussions on the forum about reading. I often read books at the weekend or on holiday. I also help some friends select the genres of books that they like. I hope that I will have my own library in the near future. I love books very much, and I couldn’t live without them.
