Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2020-2021. Task for the BSU team trials.

Deadline – September 11, 2020. Date for oral presentation – September 18, 2020

 

The main task of the trials is based on the case, which was considered at the 24th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in 2017 (Problem).

The Problem tells about a dispute between Wright Ltd. (Claimant) and SantosD KG (Respondent) related to a contract on development and sale of fan blades for jet engines.

The Problem is available on the official website of the Vis Moot.

Upon analysing the Problem and relevant sources, you shall complete the following tasks:

1. Write a short memorandum on behalf of the Respondent on the issue defined in paragraph 5 (1) (b) on page 52 of the Problem, which shall be limited to the following question:

Are Claimant’s claims admissible or have they been submitted out of time?”.

Please focus your memoranda exclusively on the issue mentioned above. Do not refer to any other aspects of the Problem.

The memorandum shall be prepared in the English language. The requirements to the memorandum are the same as specified on the Vis Moot official website. In addition, the memorandum shall not exceed 5 A4 pages with standard margins, font Times New Roman 12, 1.5 interval.

2. Oral presentation before the Tribunal concerning the mentioned issue.

The presentation will comprise a speech, which shall not last longer than 5 minutes, and responses to the arbitrators’ questions. The number of, and time limit for, the questions is not established.

The deadline for submitting the memoranda is 11th September, 24:00. The memoranda shall be sent with a cover email enclosed with a brief CV containing the following information:

· name, patronymic name, and surname;

· contact details (email and phone number);

· age;

· your status at BSU (faculty, education form, grade, specialty, course, group);

· information about professional experience: internships, employment, etc. Please provide the full list of practice records specifying the place and term of practice, your position;

· information about courses, programs, or studies in foreign educational institutions (please, indicate place, term and specialty);

· information about your previous participation in other similar student competitions (moot courts, olympiads, UN models, etc.).

The above information shall be sent together with the memoranda to the following email addresses:

The provided memoranda will be reviewed and assessed before the hearing rounds. The date for the oral presentation shall be 18th September. The place will be informed to you additionally.

Both mentioned stages ate mandatory for all candidates. The total scoring and final decision on the team members will be made after the oral rounds and will be informed to you via email.
