Dear Mr. Scott,
Thank you for your letter of 20 February, explaining that the super widgets, catalogue reference X-3908, are no longer available but that ST-1432 made of the same specifications but using a different alloy, are now available instead.
Before place an order I’d like to see samples of the new super widgets. If they are as excellent as you say we’ll order them. You must understand I must safeguard Autoworld’s interests and make sure the quality is satisfactory. Apart from anything else I’d be happy to cooperate with Smith and Brown Co, whose service has always been good.
I would be grateful if you could send me samples as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Simon Thomas
Production Manager

Unfortunately the manufacturers of the parts you wish to order have informed us that they cannot supply the parts until August. Would you prefer us to supply a substitute, or would you rather wait until the original parts are again available?
