INTRODUCTION TO BOOK 1 OF VOLUME 3
The main idea of the books of Elijah are the fulfillment of the covenant according to Leviticus 26, after the moral decline that followed the more noble kingdoms of David and Solomon that were usurped by lawless men. It is noteworthy that the law code of Hammurabi demands justice for any lawless kings that would rule on the behalf of criminals. It is also notable that the Canaanite neighbors of Israel were able to maintain some degree of control over Israel at this time.
The Canaanite tribes were the ancient tribes of Babylon and Egypt, whom God had withdrawn His blessing from. And the tribes of Israel were the people that God had given his blessing to, in variety of degrees. Therefore, the Canaanites were generally unlawful, and practiced banditry and lechery and idol worship, whereas the Israelites were called by God to be lawful and build up a kingdom of righteousness and moral uprightness. The challenge proved to be more than they could handle.
In the ancient world, the region of Canaan, that which is modern day Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Israel, was often ground zero for the struggle between good and evil. The valley of Babylon and the valley of Egypt were also caught up in many power struggles back and forth, due to the strategic central location right between three continents and two oceans. Therefore, the ancient history of the area is marked by much intentional trade and cultural intermingling, which of course led to great wars that created deep rooted resentment and loss of trust towards their neighbors. Hence the teaching of Jesus to love your neighbors as your own brethren.
It is notable that distant foreign powers were constantly interfering in the politics of the region from afar, as though it were an ancient stadium where dramatic events were played out on a stage that everybody was watching. Hence the great number of geopolitical clashes, foreign money, and turmoil. A good example of this gamesmanship is found much later in history when the Christian crusaders and the Muslim kingdoms duked it out on a large scale, over ideological differences that are absurd by any objective observation of true religious faith and morality. The practice of pointless war has been resurgent in the late 20th century of the post-modern post-Vietnam era. Indeed, the neo-Islamic terrorists and crusading presidents of the Y2K generation have clashed over the same ideologies, in the name of war, and conquest, and terror; not in the name of true religious faith and moral sincerity.
The objective observer might say, with no small subtlety, that if radical Islam men were truly religious people, they would reach out and settle their differences peaceably, and make generous offers to help bridge the divides between them and the world. However, we live in a world of duplicity and doublespeak, where constant war is the status quo, whether it be cultural, economic, or conventional warfare. The alarming aspect about the situation is that the people's money is being spent hand over fist, and mountains of debts have been acquired by governments in order to carry on these wars in the name of false religious agendas. The money behind the industrial military complex is indeed where much of the pressure to wage war is found, as much as the local battles for control over the populace.
Yea, the situation is not very different than it was in ancient times. Then, as now, kingdoms that were more or less aligned would tussle and fight skirmishes, and from time to time empires would form under the rule of centralized power-sharing, which would eventually splinter off into fringe groups resisting the greater authority of the empires. These cycles of history are all centered on the legal rule of law, and the power to denounce or rival neighboring ideologies. Therefore the writings of the legal codes and scriptures of the ancient nations are key to understanding the problems people have had, and unraveling the knots that entangle the fabric of human society, especially in the tense regions of the Mid-East.
The scriptures of the post-Elijah prophets and the Exile are a controversial subject, and not very well understood by most of the people on either side. Therefore to look at these situations through the lens of an ancient process of regional struggles in Canaan is helpful, instead of assuming that Judah and Dan were corrupted by nature as a people. It is helpful to see that Israel is an extension of Babylonia ethnically, culturally, and geographically. And, also that the Arab rule of Aaron's people is governed by the Israelite blessing given to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob-Israel, and the 12 tribes, when the covenant of God was established 1, 800 years before Christ.
In the first book of Volume 3 we flow the songs of David and the wisdom of Solomon, with a glance at the prophecy of Zarathustra and the lengthy epics of the Greek poet Homer. The Avesta is book 3 of Volume 3, and the Odyssey and the Iliad are book 4 of volume 3.
The lost Coptic books of the Ethiopian Bible are introduced with a nod toward the writing about Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.
The Chronicles of the Kings of Israel and Judah are finished up and the minor prophets start off followed by a presentation of the purported book of the Laws of the Lord, revealed by the second Mormon prophet.
After Isaiah, the story of Haiqar emulates the frustrations of Solomon's dealing with Rehoboam. A book of the metaphoric relationship between a woman and a questionable suitor is set forth in the story of Solomon and the wife of his scribe Sirach.
Here we leave off as the tension grows, when prophecy against Israel and its neighbors resumes, with more threats of invasion due to persistent rebellion.
The second book of Volume 3 follows the writings of the prophet Jeremiah, and then gets complicated by the arrival of major philosophic teachers in China, Greece, and India. Indeed, it was a time of a great renaissance of philosophic and religious teachings. The proverbial story of the book of Ezekiel, about the man that measures the temple-city of God is connected to these major advancements in doctrine.
The golden ages of philosophy in China, Greece, and India should not be cause for looking down on the Israelite kingdoms of Judah and Dan in a derogatory light, yet instead with empathy for their sorrows and for the plight of a population ruled by an aggressive minority that was allied with the Canaanites and their Babylonian sponsors. Philosophy, the love of wisdom, together with the laws of God teach us patience and understanding towards victims of tragic situations, and to engage
The Pythagorean and Hermetic teachings of Greece form book 5 of volume 3, and the Bhuddists teachings form book 6 of volume 3.
While the tribes of Israel were in captivity in Babylon, they produced the large Talmud books of laws, traditions, stories, and commetary that had been taught in Israel for many generatiosn. These teachings were based on the Torah (Bible), and the Mishnah, the legal code of civic and relgious laws that appears to have been set down when the Israelites were exiled in Babylon. The Mishnah forms book
Volume 3 ends with the last writings of the captivity in exile in Babylon, which ended with the decree of the emperor of Persia in 540 BC. The prophet-priest-scribe Ezra returns to Israel around 460 BC (if not sooner), to advance the rebuilding of the city. walls and the temple of God. Before he left Babylon he received a sizable book of visions that follow in the footsteps of Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.
Last yet not least, an ancient book of genealogy and information about Genesis turns up, recorded by the library of Clement. The Book of Rolls is around the size of the Book of Asher. That book is another version of Genesis that turned up around the time the last years of Moses. The book of the Lives of the Prophets gives information about the prophets of Israel from the age of Elijah to the age of Zechariah, the last major prophet of Israel.
