Niagara Falls – “Land of the rainbow”

1. One of the most fascinating places in North America is the Niagara Falls. At more than 900 meters wide and about 60 meters feet at their highest point they are indeed among the natural wonders of the world.

2. The Niagara Falls are located on the Niagara River between the province of Ontario in Canada and the state of New York in the United States. There are really two giant waterfalls divided by a small island. The one, in Canada, is called the American Falls.

3. Bridges link the American and Canadian sides, while a glass-enclosed elevator take visitors to the top of the New York State Observation Tower for a stunning view. The falls are even more spectacular, if possible, at night, when lights off the mist and water.

4. Everyone comes: kings and queens, movie stars, honeymooners and million of just plain people. They stand and watch nearly a million tons of water pass over the Falls every five minutes. No photo or painting can truly capture their power and beauty. It is a sight that one must simply see for oneself.

Buckingham Palace

1. Buckingham Palace, which is today the official residence of the British Monarchy, has served that function only since comparatively recent times. In, the Middle Ages the principal London residence of the kings was the Palace of Westminster, now rebuilt as the Houses of Parliament.

2. Today, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh live in the private apartment on the north side of the palace. In all, Buckingham Palace has 19 staterooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 182 staff rooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. Some 450 people work in the palace and 40. 000 people are entertained there every year.

3. Unlike many other historical monuments, Buckingham Palace remains a fully occupied; working royal palace and it gives it a particular fascination. The Queen, as herd of state, receives there a large number of formal and informal visitors, including the Prime Minister at weekly audiences, foreign and British ambassadors and high commissioners, bishops, and senior officers of the armed services and the civil service.

4. The highlight of royal entertaining, however, is the state banquet, usually for about 170 guests, given by the Queen on the first evening of a state visit of a foreign head of the state to the United Kingdom.

Scotland

1. When we think about Scotland, what comes to our minds is the beautiful landscape of hills and moors surrounded by the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It is an extraordinary place where men wear tartan skirts and play the bagpipes. Scotland is also known for its Scotch Whisky – Johnie Walker – and delicious salmon, a typical Scottish fish.

2. Scotland is a part of the United Kingdom and it is situated in the North of the main British island and includes the Hebrides, Orkney, Shetland and other smaller islands. The most famous lake is called Loch Ness, where you can meet the very shy monster Nessie. The main cities are Edinburgh and Glasgow.

3. One of the most characteristic things about Scots is their national garment, so called “tartan kilt”, that is a woolen, checked skirt worn by men. The bagpipes are a typical Scottish instrument.

4. The cultural centre of Scotland is Edinburgh, its capital city for almost 500 years.

5. Scotland is also famous for it medieval castles like Edinburgh castle, which is home to the Scottish Grown Jewels. Another place worth visiting in the Palace of Holyrood, her Majesty the Queen’s official residence.

6. Sir Walter Scott is the most famous Scottish writer.

7. Scotland offers a wide range of attractions throughout the year. Whatever you need, Scotland has it all!
