Today’s typical method of teaching involving direct communication between teachers and students will not exist by 2050.

There is an opinion that the present teaching approach consisting of live communication between teachers and students will be the thing of the past by the year 2050. Obviously, modern technologies developing at a rapid pace these days could be seen as a precursor of such educational innovation. To a large extent, I would agree with this statement, but this phenomenon requires a close consideration.

On the one hand, the proponents of the fact that teachers and students will lose direct contact in the future have their own reasons. Among those is the fact that Internet-based distance education will continue spreading throughout the world, which means that classroom attendance would be no longer necessary. Another factor that these people take into account is that in the technological era the very nature of education is being widely reconsidered: it is becoming more applied and gives a freedom of academic choice for students.

However, the people who oppose the disappearance of direct teacher-student communication maintain that education cannot avoid such live contact. Thus, not every country is able to transfer conventional education into virtual format due to technical or cultural constraints, and direct contact in education will remain as a key element. Moreover, these opponents claim that no computer, even the most advanced, could fully replace an experienced teacher who is able to adjust the learning process according to specific student needs and capabilities.

To conclude, I believe that direct communication between students and instructors will not cease to exist altogether by 2050, but it is expected to decline substantially in the decades to come. This will happen because of the ever-expanding opportunities for self-study available in the Internet as compared to the resources offered in a traditional school setting.
