2. Nowadays every schoolgirl or schoolboy knows what acid rain and greenhouse effect mean.

3. In our country, like everywhere in the world, people have done things that have badly damaged the nature.

4. As a result, today it's dangerous to eat fish that was caught in the river or mushrooms that were picked in the woods because they may be contaminated.

6. Ecologists list about 150 species that disappeared from our planet in the past three centuries.

7. It's too late to do something about those 150 species, but we could do something about the 240 species that are threatened now.

8. Not only animals but many plants become extinct.

9. The situation is most serious on islands where species found nowhere in the world exist.

10. In the Hawaiian islands 95 per cent of the plants are unique.

11. And it's possible to spend a vacation in Hawaii without ever seeing a native plant.

13. It does! The richly varied flora and fauna of our planet is beautiful and we want to preserve it that way.
