Travelling

Modern life is impossible without travelling. That’s why the best place for relaxation is the one where you have never been before.

People travel to see other countries and continents, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns, enjoy picturesque places, discover new things, different ways of life, meet different people, try different food.

There are various means of transport for those who wish to travel, such as a bicycle, motor- cycle, motor-car, train, ship, plane, and others.

You can travel by car for long distances. Travelling by car you have an advantage of making your own time-table, you don’t have to buy a ticket, you are not afraid to miss your train and you can stop wherever you wish, see the country you are travelling through and enjoy the beautiful nature.

Most travellers take a camera and take pictures of everything that interests them — the sights of a town or city, all churches and castles, views of mountains, lakes, valleys, plains, waterfalls, forests, different kinds of trees, flowers and plants, animals and birds.

If you travel by train and you are going to a distant place, a sleeping compartment of the fast train is very comfortable. The carriage and compartment are appointed in your ticket. It may be a lower berth, which is more convenient, or an upper one, a seat facing the engine or back to engine. You put your luggage into a special box under the lower berth. It is much more convenient to travel by express train, it takes you less time to get to your destination. You may go to the dining-car to have a snack or to dine.

If you are on holiday, it is a pleasure for you to go on a sea voyage or a river trip by ship. There are large liners which can cross seas and oceans from one continent to another. There are also holiday ships and river boats on board which you can visit different cities or places. You may want a separate cabin for your family and reserve first class cabins with three or four berths. You are on board the ship. You breathe the sea air and look at the harbour.

Soon the ship leaves the seaport and goes out towards the open sea. It sails at a high speed. You see the waves rising and falling. You hear sea gulls crying out their songs. You are a romantic soul by nature and you like travelling.

Today travelling by air is a common thing. Many people prefer this kind of travelling because it is more convenient, more comfortable and much quicker than any other means of transport.

You’d better book tickets in advance. Before getting off you make your preparations, visit your friends and settle your business. On the eve of your departure you pack things in a suit-case. When the day of your departure comes, you call a taxi and go to the airport.

At the airport you must check in your ticket, weigh and check in your luggage and after the procedure of registration you board the plane. The plane is taking off. The stewardess brings passengers some juice, mineral water, coffee, tea, sandwiches. The seats on board the plane are comfortable, you may read a book, magazine or a newspaper, look through the window to see the passing clouds. Soon the plane will land and arrive at its destination exactly on time.
