The most interesting/useful information I've learned during this course.

The most interesting/useful information I've learned during this course.

This course was really useful for me. Before writing about the most interesting topic I would like to express my gratitude to you for the work and non-standard approach to teaching us. It was pleasure to study psychology and english language both. Thank you!

I want to share my insights about the lesson about Neural Communication. Neurotransmitters are involved in the processes of early human development, including neurotransmission, differentiation, the growth of neurons, and the development of neural circuitry. [5] Most of the material from this topic I have already studied in the course of physiology of the central nervous system. Though this information was already known to me, I learned something new. For example, about the causes of disorders such as multiple sclerosis and schizophrenia. Information about psychoactive substances is very interesting because our nervous system, and especially the brain, is a huge field for study. And I was surprised when found out that the drug LSD is structurally very similar to serotonin, and it affects the same neurons and receptors as serotonin. Psychotropic drugs are not instant solutions for people suffering from psychological disorders. [1]

Also I learned more about Multiple Sclerosis and enjoyed revising the mechanism of the nerve system’s work. It was interesting to read about it, to watch the videos and do all the tests. Texts from this topic tells briefly all the information that we’ve been studying all month at Physiology of the nervous system. I found out what happens when neurotransmitters do not work right. Also by this topic I checked my gained knowledge (with photos, tests etc).

Studying neuropsychology is the reason why entered MSU. And it was useful for me to read more about types of neurotransmitters (I learn much more information about each of them), guidelines for determining a chemical as a neurotransmitter, things that might go wrong with neurotransmitters, drug effects. A neurotransmitter can affect a wide variety of both physical and psychological functions including heart rate, sleep, appetite, mood, and fear.[2] Adrenaline, serotonin, noradrenaline, glutamate, endorphins can control our whole life. For example, serotonin involved in regulation of mood and impulsivity.

Just imagine: billions of neurotransmitter molecules work constantly to keep our brains functioning, managing everything from our breathing to our heartbeat to our learning and concentration levels. There are many different chemicals in the brain that function as neurotransmitters, but a small handful do most of the work. [3] Is not it a magic?

Moreover, due to those texts I can freely discuss topic about neurotransmitter in English, I can use such new words for me as bind, enzymes, semipermeable and etc. It is not a secret that often, psychological disorders involve imbalances in a given neurotransmitter system. Neurotransmitters taken up by the nerve terminals are repackaged in granules or vesicles in the axon terminal for reuse. [4] So that knowledges are extremely useful in the work of a psychologist.
