Draft Proposal #3 / Apology to Dhanurdhara Swami

 Draft Proposal #3 / Apology to Dhanurdhara Swami

NA GBC – December 29th, 2006

Whereas the GBC recognizes its shortcomings in the past to properly deal with Dhanudhara Swami’s case;

Therefore, the GBC offers its sincere apology to Dhanurdhara Swami via the following letter:

Dear Dhanurdhara Maharaja,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We hope that this letter finds you in good spirits in spite of this trying time.

There are a number of devotees who are upset, considering you to be the focus of unproven allegations, potential double jeopardy, and that your case has never had a final line drawn under it. At the same time, given the confirmed history and the CPO decision in your case, there are many devotees demanding further action by the GBC.

What is also clear is that the GBC body, while working in a difficult climate and swimming in uncharted waters, should accept responsibility for the procedural irregularities in your case and the subsequent difficulties we have put you through.

We apologize to you for those irregularities and mistakes and for the difficulties and pain they have caused you and your disciples, followers, and friends.

This whole sad chapter has been an ordeal for all concerned but most of all it has been an ordeal for you and the students who were victims of abuse at the Vrindavan gurukula.

Notwithstanding the procedural errors in your case, there is no legitimate dispute regarding the validity of your CPO decision.

We know that the decisions made by the GBC this year in Mayapur are a bitter pill for you to swallow. At the same time, it is the GBC’s belief and hope that these resolutions  will also bring some closure and help to finally put these tragic events behind all of us. We can only pray that with time and reflection, you will also come to see these decisions in the same way.

While we are obliged by duty to exert the hand of discipline, with all the humility at our command, we would also like to offer you the hand of friendship as well. Thus, we would again like to express our desire that you remain an active member in ISKCON. We feel that this would be the desire of Srila Prabhupada and that it is the best course of action for you, your disciples, and your followers.

Your servants,

The GBC
