Debate (дебаты) - a discussion in which people or groups state different opinions about a subject

Poll (голосование) - an occasion when a lot of people are asked what they feel about something, usually by a company paid by a political party, television programme etc.

Еlectoral district (избирательный округ) - a body of voters in a specified area who elect a representative to a legislative body.

electoral roll (список избирателей) - an official list of all the people in an area who have the right to vote in elections

campaigning ( проведение предвыборной кампании) - to try to achieve political or social change by persuading other people or the government to do something

candidate (кандидат) - one of the people competing in an election

casting vote (решающий голос) - an extra vote given by a chairperson to decide an issue when the votes on each side are equal.

suffrage (избирательное право) - the right to vote in political elections.

election law (избирательное право) - a discipline falling at the juncture of constitutional law and political science.

independent candidate (независимый кандидат) - politician who takes part in the elections irrespective of any political party

majoritarian electoral system (мажоритарная система) - an electoralsystem which gives the right to appoint all the representatives to the majority of the electors, denying representation to all minorities.

Mandate (мандат) - the authority of an elected government or official to do the things that they promised to do before an election

principle of direct suffrage (принцип прямого избирательного права)Every person entitled to vote may elect directly and without intermediation.

principle of equal suffrage ( принцип равного избирательного права) - The votes of all voters have the same weight in respect of the outcome of the election.

principle of universal suffrage ( принцип всеобщего избирательного права ) gives the right to vote to all adult citizens, regardless of wealth, income, gender, social status, race, ethnicity, or any other restriction, subject only to relatively minor exceptions.
