This course is designed to further develop the skills required to teach English as a foreign language to adults or children, in an online learning environment and with particular focus on vocabulary development. It has been structured to give teachers the opportunity to incorporate interactive and student centred techniques into their lessons using a Cambridge DELTA qualified English teacher’s approach.

Course Objectives                                                              

  • Create a learner-centred online classroom
  • Utilise a variety of teaching approaches in an online environment
  • Exposure to warmers, games and speaking activities
  • Focus on activities for learners at Pre intermediate and Intermediate level
  • Evaluate activities for teaching vocabulary
  • Evaluate activities to develop listening and speaking skills
  • Develop the English language level of teachers
  • Develop knowledge of idiomatic language and collocations

 

Course Plan – Monday 20th April – Friday 24th April

Each day will include focus on warmers and their purpose, and incorporate methodologies and approaches to build a student-centred classroom

Tuesday 21/4 – Day 2   12.30 - 13.45 Organising and teaching a class around a theme at PI/ Int level 1, e.g. vocabulary, listening task, speaking follow-up (food)   14.00 - 15.15 English class - idioms / collocations     Teacher Trainer – Paula
Wednesday 22/4 – Day 3   12.30 - 13.45       Organising and teaching a class around a theme at PI / Int level 2, e.g. vocabulary, listening task, speaking follow-up (travel)   14.00 - 15.15 English class - idioms / collocations HMK: adapt a task for your own classroom     Teacher Trainer – Paula
Thursday 23/4 – Day 4   12.30 - 13.45             The role of role-play     14.00 - 15.15 English class - idioms / collocations     Teacher Trainer – Paula
