Task 1. Paraphrase the following using Essential Vocabulary I and Vocabulary Notes of Unit 4:

1. She’ll never make me to trim her dress. 2. If you organize day properly you’ll get enjoy out of your trip. 3. Stay by the radio and keep listening in case there’s news about that accident. 4. I sake for and care about my husband, children and friends. 5. I’ve finished, but it made me a lot of troubles. 6. Having gotten some flowers from her students she decided to turn it back. 9. “Is it alright if I buy you another beer?” “Yes, of course, I’m hardly ever able to have an enjoyment like this”. 10. It turned out very unlucky I arrived just as the man I wanted to see was leaving. 11. Most girls like to dress in one’s best for parties. 12. She was keeping back four bottles of their best champagne for such an occasion. 13. Our vacation turned out a disaster: not only the food was terrible, the weather was awful. We could stay at home just as well. 14. She kept complaining while we were on vacation.

Task 2. Fill in the blanks with the words in the box. Use each word once.

Ingredients (1) for 8 pancakes: 125 g flour, 1 egg, half teaspoon salt, about 125 ml milk, fat for frying.

Method

To avoid lumps, sift the flour and salt into a basin (2) and make a well in the middle. Pour (3) half the milk into the well, beat (4) the egg into it. Break (5) from the centre, gradually move in the flour from the sides. Add the rest (6) of the milk and stir (7) thoroughly so that everything is well mixed.

Heat (8) a little fat in the bottom of a frying pan. Move it round to make it evenly covered. When the pan is hot, pour in a little of batter (9). Cook for a minute or two, shaking the pan so that the pancake doesn’t stick. When it is brown underneath, turn (10) the pancake over and finish cooking. If you don’t want to eat it immediately, keep (11) it on a warm plate in the oven. Serve (12) with the toppings of your choice.
